Conduct
Players, coaches and parents are expected to display exemplary conduct when involved in CYO basketball. The following is an overview of expectations of conduct for Mt. Carmel CYO Basketball.
Players
Players are expected to show complete respect for their coaches and teammates at all times. Players shall not use profanity. Coaches will discipline players who show lack of respect and who goof off during team activities.
Players shall notify their coaches of their absences from practices or games. Absences shall be for reasonable illnesses or injuries. Players will be disciplined for not notifying coaches. Discipline includes: 1) Missing one practice per week = Minimum play in game that week; 2) Missing two practices per week = No Play in game that week.
Players missing more than three consecutive unexecused practices and/or games are subject to removal from the team.
Players shall directly discuss with coaches any issues they have about the team, the coaching techniques, or other players (before having their parent contact the coaches).
Coaches
Coaches shall keep all players fully informed of team policies.
Coaches shall always attend every practice or game.
Coaches shall use positive coaching techniques for all players.
Coaches shall not use profanity.
Coaches shall not make degrading or uncomplimentary statements towards players.
Coaches shall not make any inappropriate physical contact with players at any time.
Coaches shall initially directly discuss with players any issues they have about that player (before contacting their parent).
Parents
Parents shall support the coaches and the team.
Parents shall only make encouraging statements toward their child during games and shall never give coaching instructions to their child from the stands.
Parents should not confront coaches on game days about issues with their child.  It is much more courteous to approach a coach about any issues before or after a practice.
Parents shall allow their child to initially directly discuss with coaches any issues they have about the team, the coaching techniques, or other players.
